Description
ABTS [2,2'-Azino-bis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline)-6-sulfonic acid)] is a safe and sensitive substrate for horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-based ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay). It is useful in ELISA assay because of its high sensitivity, specificity, and reproducibility.
The substrate generates a soluble, green product. It can be read spectrophotometrically at 405 nm.
ABTS in decolorization assays appears blue in the presence of sodium or potassium persulfate or metmyoglobin, however, it decolorizes upon incubation with antioxidants including flavonoids, hydroxycinnamates, carotenoids, and plasma antioxidants. By this mechanism, it determines the antioxidant activity.
Applications
• Substrate for ELISA
• Used to assess antioxidant activity in TEAC assays
