An isoquinoline alkaloid that acts as an anticancer agent. It inhibits cell growth and induces apoptosis in a variety of cancer cell lines. It induces the most potent apoptosis in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) cells with both MDM2 overexpression and a wild-type (wt)-p53, whereas no pro-apoptotic effect was detected in ALL cells that were negative for MDM2 and wt-p53.
