Description

CHAPSO is a unique detergent with high CMC that solubilizes membrane-bound proteins in their native state. Zwitterionic detergent. Higher solubilty than CHAPS. Solubilizes membrane proteins in their native state. Solubilizes opiate receptor to a state exhibiting reversible binding of opiates. Purity > 99% by TLC. Conductivity < 50 micromhos in 10% solution.

Chapso is a zwitterionic detergent derived from Chaps by the addition of a functional hydroxyl group. It is a nondenaturing zwitterionic detergent with characteristics similar to CHAPS, although it is more soluble due to a more polar head group. Chapso has been used in a study to assess methods for high-throughput crystallization of membrane proteins. It has also been used in a study to investigate the effects of detergents on the structure of rhomboid proteases in a lipid environment.
