Description

L-glutamate is the major excitatory neurotransmitter like the agonist at kainite, N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDA) and quisqualate receptors in central nervous system (CNS). It stimulates ionic conductance changes in ventricular zone (VZ) neuroblasts during neurogenesis in the embryonic cerebral cortex.

It is used in cell culture as a component of MEM non-essential amino acids solution.
