Description & Applications
Leptomycin A is a compound that, along with the better-known leptomycin B analogue, makes up the broader leptomycin complex produced by some Streptomyces species. Leptomycin B is a documented inhibitor of CRM1 and as a result is capable of significantly inhibiting nuclear export.
Leptomycin B also demonstrates a cytotoxic effect that is more pronounced in cancerous cells than in those functioning normally. This effect has led to research into leptomycin B as a potential therapy for lung cancer. As a closely related member of the complex, leptomycin A is likely to exert the same inhibitory effect on nuclear export. Leptomycin A has also been shown to have some effectiveness as an antifungal agent. Leptomycin A shows antimicroMSTl activity against Schizosaccaromyces pombe and Mucor rouxianus.
Not for human therapeutic use or for medicinal purposes. For research applications only.
