Description
PJ-34 is a potent inhibitor of poly(ADP)-ribose polymerase that is capable of inducing mitotic arrest. Rat studies have demonstrated that PJ-34 can exert neuroprotective effects in cases of ischemic damage by modulating the RAGE receptor. PJ-34 has also demonstrated an antiplatelet effect in vitro, suggesting that it could have significant potential for improving repurfusion following strokes.
Considerable research has also been conducted into the anticancer effects of this compound. Through inhibition of PARP-1, PJ-34 has the capacity to enhance the effects of chemotherapy. Mouse studies have confirmed its ability to suppress the growth of cancerous cells and induce apoptosis. PJ-34 has even been shown to inhibit angiogenesis by blocking ordinary cellular signaling pathways associated with blood vessel formation.
