Trolox is a water-soluble derivative of vitamin E with potent antioxidant properties. Used as a standard in antioxidant assays, to quench reactive oxygen species (ROS), as well as block lipid peroxidation. Inhibits peroxynitrite mediated tyrosine nitration and mitochondrial proton permeability.
Trolox is also used to reduce cytotoxicity of cyanobacteria Microcystis aeruginosa and microcystin-LR in brine shrimp (Artemia franciscana nauplii).
