Description
Citric acid monohydrate is a weak organic acid produced by citrus fruits. Citric acid plays a partial role in physiological oxidation of carbohydrates, proteins and fats to CO2 and H2O. Citric acid can be used to prepare a citrate buffer. Citrate has displayed anticoagulant activities via calcium chelation. As a calcium chelator, citrate can form complexes that prevent blood from clotting.
