Description
Potassium acetate is the potassium salt of acetic acid. It is hygroscopic and insoluble in ether. It is used for precipitation of ethanol, SDS, and SDS bound proteins to purify DNA.
Potassium acetate is used as part of replacement protocols in the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis because of its ability to break down into bicarbonate and help neutralize the acidotic state.
It can be used to replenish electrolytes and as a urinary systemic alkalizer.
Applications
