Description
Guanidine thiocyanate is a compound that is widely used for the isolation and extraction of RNA in biochemical research. In this capacity, it has been used in many studies relating to cell function, signaling and gene expression.
Guanidine thiocyanate can also be used to create whole blood lysates for long-term storage or transportation of samples. Such lysate samples can be stored for a year or more at -20 degrees Celsius. Precipitation of nucleic acid from guanidine thiocyanate lysates using isoproponal has even been shown to allow for sample storage at room temperatures for up to 14 days, as compared to three days for samples that have not undergone the precipitation process.
Also available in solution form.
