Ketanserin tartrate is a salt of Ketanserin and acts as a selective 5-HT2 receptor antagonist. It is also called R 41 468.
Ketanserin is a selective serotonergic antagonist. It inhibits effects of serotonin and displays high affinity for G protein coupled receptor (GPCR) and ion channels in the central nervous system (CNS). It has no agonistic property in isolated vascular preparation.
It was determined that Ketanserin tartrate has antihypertensive properties, inhibiting serotonin-induced platelet aggregation and causing either relaxation or contraction of vascular smooth muscle.
