Description
Aprotinin is a natural serine protease inhibitor from bovine lung tissue. It inhibits trypsin, chymotrypsin, Factor XII, plasmin and kallikrein which are related to fibrinolysis. Some proteases like Factor Xa, thrombin and pepsin are not affected by aprotinin. It is heat- and acid-stable, however it dissociates at pH >10 or <3 from most aprotinin-proteases. Effective concentration is equimolar with protease. It is also used to preserve platelet number and organs for transplantation and function for transfusion.
Applications
• Protein purification
• Used to preserve biological fluids, cells, and tissues from proteolytic damage
