Description
Vincristine sulfate is a Vinca alkaloid. It blocks mitotic spindle formation in the G2/M phase of the cell cycle. The alkaloid depolymerizes microtubules and interferes binding of tubulin to microtubule proteins. With this antitumor property, it is used for treatment of various cancers such as leukemia, malignant lymphoma, and Hodgkin's disease.
It triggers Raf-1 activation, phosphorylation of Bcl-2 family and induction of p53 expression and downregulates HIF-1a expression.
In addition, it has been reported that vincristine sulfate is a potent neurotoxin and it aroused seizures, mental changes, orthostatic hypotension, inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone, and potentiation of preexisting neurological disease.
Applications
