Description

Chemotin is a fungal metabolite derived from Chaetomium cochliodes that blocks binding of p300 to HIF1 and 2, thus significantly suppressing the HIF pathway. As a result of this HIF inhibition, it renders tumor cells more susceptible to hypoxia. Chemotin has demonstrated anticancer properties, as well as the ability to inhibit angiogenesis. This inhibitor has also been shown to prevent or decrease expression of SEMA7A in certain cell types. It is, however, considered to be too toxic for clinical application. Other related compounds, including chartocin, appear to produce similar downregulation of HIF and exert similar anticancer effects while being less toxic than chemotin. Antibacterial agent isolated from Chaetomium sp.

Chetomin, an antibiotic metabolite of chaetomium cochliodes, is an inhibitor of HIF-1 by weaken transcription of HIF-1 and recently is raised interests as a cancer chemotherapeutic agent. (Timothy R. Welch, 2013). Chetomin, a metabolite complex, produced by several fungi of the genus Chaetomium, disrupts the ability of tumours to adapt to hypoxia by blocking the HIF pathway. (Kung et al, 2004).
