Doxycycline is an antibiotic belonging to the group of tetracyclines. It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit. Doxycycline blocks binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to the mRNA-ribosome complex, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis and some collagenase activity. Doxycycline is used to treat many different bacterial infections, from diseases of the urinary tract to diseases of the gums.
• Used to treat Lyme disease, chronic prostatitis, sinusitis, pelvic inflammatory disease acne, rosacea, and rickettsial infections
• Used against Yersinia pestis
• Used for the induction of shRNA expression and induction of expression vectors
