Doxycycline hydrochloride is an antibiotic belonging to the group of tetracyclines. It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit. Doxycycline blocks binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to the mRNA-ribosome complex, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis and some collagenase activity. Doxycycline is used to treat many different bacterial infections, from diseases of the urinary tract to diseases of the gums.
Applications:
• Used to treat Lyme disease, chronic prostatitis, sinusitis, pelvic inflammatory disease acne, rosacea, and rickettsial infections
• Used against Yersinia pestis
• Used for the induction of shRNA expression and induction of expression vectors
