Description
Etoposide is a Topoisomerase II inhibitor derived from podophyllotoxin. It induces apoptosis, autophagy in various cell lines and has a antitumor property so can be used for treatment of cancer. This reagent suppresses DNA synthesis and blocks specific cell cycles because it helps to break double-strand DNA by generating transient double-stranded breaks in the double helix.
Its antitumor property is explained by activation of tumor suppressor p53 and inhibition of synthesis of oncoprotein Mdm2 and overexpress Mdm2 to promote apoptosis.
Application
• Anti-tumor reagent
• Preparation of drug stock solution in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO)
• DNA damage inducer
