Cesium chloride has been used for density gradient centrifugation and for fractionation of nucleic acids, ribosomal subunits, proteins, glycoproteins, and viruses. Absorbance: (3 M, H2O, 260 nm): ≤0.01; (3 M, H2O, 280 nm): ≤0.02. Cesium chloride is also used in preparation of other caesium compounds, evacuation of radio tubes (positive ions supplied at surface of filament) fluorescent screens, and as a contrast medium.
