Fascalypsin was originally isolated from a marine sponge, It is a selective Cyclin-Dependent Kinase 4 inhibitor (in an ATP competitive manner), IC50 = 350 nM.
Fascaplysin acts as an inhibitor of Cdk6 and exerts anti-tumor effects through apoptotic and anti-angiogenesis pathways. Fascaplysin has recently been shown to be a DNA intercalator.
