Mitomycin C is produced by a strain of actinomyces, Streptomyces caespitosus. It contains three anticancer moieties, quinine, urethane, and aziridine groups. It is used to generate mitotically inactive feeder cells in cell culture systems, such as the mitotically inactive fibroblasts used in embryonic stem cell systems.

This product is an alkylating agent that specifically targets the guanine nucleoside sequence 5′-CpG-3′. It inhibits DNA synthesis by covalently reacting with DNA, forming crosslinks between complementary strands of DNA. This interaction prevents separation of complementary DNA strands, inhibiting DNA replication.

Mitomycin C has strong antitumor activity, especially against Ehrlich ascites tumor cells, and strong bactericidal action against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

This formulation consists of 2mg Mitomycin C in 48mg NaCl. This is not a sterile formulation.Refer to M1108 for our standard Mitomycin C product.

Mitomycin C, in NaCl is a reagent used to generate mitotically inactive feeder cells in culture. Mitomycin C (4% in NaCl) is a DNA crosslinking agent which inhibits DNA synthesis and causes apoptosis via a p53-dependent pathway. This compound is activated by sodium dithionite which is thought to cause bifunctional alkylation of DNA. In addition, when added to Micrococcus luteus DNA Mitomycin C (4% in NaCl) forms adducts between itself and deoxyguanosine residues.
