Bleomycin Sulfate is an anti-neoplastic antibiotic from Streptomyces verticillus. It binds to DNA and can inhibit DNA synthesis and causes scission of DNA. Able to cleave DNA and also RNA, but at less and more selective a degree. Also reported to induce and regulate apoptosis in a variety of cells, and inhibit tumor angiogenesis.
Produces double and single stranded DNA breaks. Inhibitis intracellular DNA replication. DNA alkylating agent.
