Zeatin is a naturally occurring cytokinin growth regulator. Promotes cell division and also influences other steps of the cell cycle. High concentrations produce advantitious shoot formation. Other uses include prevention of leaf senescence, reversal of toxin affects on shoots and inhibiting excessive root formation. Zeatin has recently been demonstrated to activate the mammalian adenosine A2A receptor, which is broadly expressed by various cell types including immune system cells, with the activation of the A2AR playing a role in the regulation of cells involved in both innate and adaptive immunity.
