4-Bromo-A23187 is a halogenated analog and divalent ionophore of A23187. Nonfluorescent calcium ionophore used as a calibration standard for determining cytoplasmic calcium ions by fluorescent probes.
Studies conducted in quin-2-loaded thymic lymphocytes of rat, 4-Bromo-A23187 has shown to saturate Ca2+ sites. This activity of 4-Bromo-A23187 has been suggested to be identical to ionomycin. Affinity towards Zn2+ and Mn2+ transportation, has been used for investigating cell regulation by Zn2+ and Mn2+.
