Description
Adenosine-5’-triphosphate (ATP) is a main component in the storage of energy and metabolism in vivo and important to signal transduction. It is a substrate of many kinases related to cell signaling such as adenylate cyclase, which cleaves ATP in second messenger cyclic adenosine monophosphate(cAMP).
It serves a variety of roles, such as a coenzyme helping enzymatic reaction, and a substrate of kinases involved in cell signaling. It is also related to cellular respiration, biosynthetic reactions, neurosystem, control of vessel tone and angiogenesis and pain and mechanosensory. It has been found to induce a release of prostaglandin D2 and histamine from peritoneal mast cells in a dose-dependent manner.
