The resorcyclic acid lactone Hypothemycin isolated from Phoma sp. has antifuangal and anticancer activity.
Hypothemycin normalized the morphology and inhibited anchorage-independent growth of Ki-ras transformed normal rat kidney(NRK) cells with selectivity and potency comparable to or greater than that of the MEK inhibitor U0126. It is also potent and selective threonine/tyrosine-specific kinase.
Hypothemycin inhibits proliferation of mouse and human T-cells and modulates production of cytokines during T-cell activation. It facilitates the ubiquitinylation process of cyclin D1.
