L-Serine is a non-essential amino acid, acting as a precursor for nucleotides, amino acids, protein synthesis, neurotransmitters and L-serine derived lipids.
The de novo synthesis of the amino acid L-serine is important in the development and functioning of the central nervous system (CNS). Defects in synthesis of the amino acid displays neurological abnormalities.
It has been reported that L-Serine potently inhibits thermosensory transduction of Escherichia coli.
