Nocodazole is a synthetic and reversible microtubule inhibitor. It inhibits microtubule polymerization and makes the arrests cells at the G2/M phase. It binds to beta-tubulin and suppresses mitotic spindles
Due to its anti-mitotic properties, it is used to induce apoptosis and for production of mitotic mammalian cells. Arrested cell cycles by the drug can return to normal cell cycles when it is removed.
Nocodazole has been reported certain concentrations of nocodazole increase p53 and p53-DNA binding and accumulate p21 mRNA in NIH-3T3 fibroblasts.
