AEBSF HCl is a broad spectrum, water soluble, irreversible serine protease inhibitor. Inhibition constants are similar to those of PMSF and DFP. AEBSF has been shown to inhibit trypsin, chymotrypsin, plasmin kallikrein and thrombin. As an alternative to PMSF and DFP, AEBSF offers lower toxicity, improved solubility in water and improved stability in aqueous solutions. It has been shown to inhibit the constitutive production of beta amyloid (A beta) in five different human cell lines, both neural and non-neural.
AEBSF also inhibits activation of TGFβ (transforming growth factor beta), moderately inhibits dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP IV) and activates JNK and p38 MAP kinases. AEBSF is a b-secretase inhibitor that has been shown to inhibit beta amyloid peptide production and enhance APP (amyloid precursor protein) secretion in several cell lines at millimolar concentrations.
